SYNOPSIS

Chris Rubens was living the dream. As a professional skier, for

years he travelled the globe in search of the best skiing, until an

expedition to Greenland brought the reality of climate change and

his impact into sharp focus.

Forced to confront his footprint and values, he takes action, risking

his career as an athlete to become an organic farmer in a quest to

foster a stronger, more sustainable community and connection to

the mountains.

Farming Turns is a film set at Chris Rubens’ place in Revelstoke, BC. Based there,

Chris and his family have the perfect place to share their passion for skiing, nature

and their farm.

Tucked between the Monashee and Selkirk Mountain Ranges of southeastern British

Columbia, Revelstoke abounds with natural beauty. It is located in the world’s only

inland temperate rainforest.

Revelstoke has long been a destination for mountaineers, hikers and explorers,

and was historically referred to as “the capital of the Canadian Alps”. Both Mount

Revelstoke National Park and Glacier National Park offer opportunities for mountain

recreation. Revelstoke is the perfect base for an adventure.

From live music to locally made art, the Revelstoke arts scene has it all. Beautiful

scenery, warm people, endless adventure and a wealth of arts and cultural experiences

can be found year-round.

The film is set in Mt Revelstoke National Park and Glacier National Park:

Mount Revelstoke National Park is adjacent to the city of Revelstoke, British Columbia,

Canada. The park, located in the Selkirk Mountains and part of the Columbia

Mountains, covers 260 km²was founded in 1914.

Glacier National Park is located on the TransCanada highway between the City of

Revelstoke and the Town of Golden, British Columbia, Canada. The 1,349 km² park

includes a portion of the Selkirk Mountains which are part of the larger grouping of

mountains, the Columbia Mountains.

Chris Rubens, a globally recognized skier for two decades, spends his

winters in the backcountry, focusing on filming and photographing his

descents. Inspired by a 2016 trip to Greenland, he advocates for climate

action through personal example. With his partner Jesse Johnston-

Hill, who has a background in tree planting and organic farming, they

founded First Light Farm in Revelstoke, BC.

Their farm aims to provide healthy food sustainably while benefiting

the planet and they find immense fulfillment in their farming journey,

which now includes their two-year-old son Huxley.

Chris aims to make a foot-powered ski film without fossil fuels, ensuring

top skiing performance and minimal environmental impact. The main

challenge is the difficult 1500m ascent to Mt. Revelstoke National Park

in winter, highlighting his commitment to innovative environmental

solutions.
